The incorporation in vitro of d-[3H]lysergic acid diethylamide into secreted protein from hyperimmune rabbit lymphoid cells was inhibited by both D- and L-tryptophan. The inhibition was specific for tryptophan isomers and analogues. On the basis of these findings a pathway was formulated to describe the preliminary steps culminating in the covalent incorporation of lysergic acid diethylamide into synthesized protein.
