  HepG2 cells were transiently transfected with pSG5-ERα together with A) 3xERE-TATA-Luc or B) XRE-Luc and β-gal reporter gene constructs. After transfection, fresh medium containing 5% DCC-treated FBS was added and the cells were incubated for approx. 18 hours. The cells were then treated with 50nM DES, 10 μM 3-MC or 10 nM TCDD for 6 hours before they were lysed and reporter gene activity measured. Shown are means and S.E. from three independent experiments including triplicate samples.
  Values of untreated cells were arbitrarily set to 1.
