By the application of intramolecular Overhauser effect and of 13C magnetic resonance spectroscopy, the equilibrium conformation and partial electronic structure of nicotine and acetylcholine have been investigated. The results give experimental support to the theory that acetylcholine acts in one preferred conformation at the different receptor sites.
