AB  - We found that dopamine is not a substrate for adrenal phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase in vitro at concentrations from 1 µM to 10 mM, using both the bovine and the rabbit adrenal enzyme. In the adrenal glands of intact rats, [3H]dopamine was rapidly converted to [3H]norepinephrine and subsequently to [3H]epinephrine. No significant levels of [3H]epinine were detected.
