Poly dA and, to a lesser extent, poly dG induced a Cotton effect in the optical rotatory dispersion spectrum of distamycin A. The complex of distamycin A and ΦX 174 DNA showed a reverisble cooperative transition upon heating and cooling. Distamycin A inhibited the template activities of poly dA and poly dT in an RNA polymerase reaction in vitro.
