RT Journal Article SR Electronic T1 Effects of Benzodiazepines on the Transport of Sugars and Ions in Rat Skeletal Muscle in Vitro JF Molecular Pharmacology JO Mol Pharmacol FD American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics SP 879 OP 883 VO 14 IS 5 A1 I. BIHLER A1 P. C. SAWH YR 1978 UL http://molpharm.aspetjournals.org/content/14/5/879.abstract AB The benzodiazepine drugs, diazepam and chlordiazepoxide, have a dual effect on sugar and ion transport in intact rat hemidiaphragms in vitro. At low concentrations they depress 3-methylglucose transport and 45Ca++ influx and increase Na+ and K+ gradients. At higher concentrations all these effects are reversed. It is suggested that the changes in sugar transport are a consequence of alterations in Ca++ fluxes and distribution caused directly or indirectly by these drugs. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We thank Mrs. B.
