2015, Pharmacological ResearchVasorelaxant effects of Shunaoxin pill are mediated by NO/cGMP pathway, HO/CO pathway and calcium channel blockade in isolated rat thoracic aorta
2015, Journal of EthnopharmacologyCitation Excerpt :However, ODQ (Fig. 4a), which inhibited the soluble guanylate cyclase presented an increased inhibitory effect when compared with ZnPP, suggesting the ability of SNX to directly stimulate the production of cGMP in a way independent of endothelium. It is worth mentioning, in our present study, the concentration of ZnPP was 10 μM, greater than the literature reported high levels of 2.5 μM (Serfass and Burstyn, 1998). As reported, ZnPP at 2.5 μM inhibited the basal activity of sGC by about 80%, suggesting that HO inhibitors may affect cGMP levels independently of HO activity (Serfass and Burstyn, 1998).
Zinc protoporphyrin regulates cyclin D1 expression independent of heme oxygenase inhibition
2009, Journal of Biological ChemistryCitation Excerpt :Whereas ZnPP has been largely studied in relation to its inhibition of HO activity, reports show that ZnPP could exert cellular effects independent of HO activity (7, 8). In kinetic assays, ZnPP inhibited the soluble guanylyl cyclase activity independent of HO-1 (9). In vitro studies showed that ZnPP directly interacts with human immunodeficiency virus type 1 reverse transcriptase and modulates its activity (10).

2007, Journal of Sexual MedicineCitation Excerpt :Inhibiting HO pathway by zinc protoporphyrin in sildenafil-treated rats (Gr 4) lead to significant drop of both HO activity and cGMP cavernous tissue levels. These findings are in agreement with those stated by Serfass and Burstyn [32] as well as Ny et al. [33] who proved that zinc protoporphyrin inhibits basal activity of sGC by interfering with membrane receptor signal transduction pathway. Recently, Hirai et al. [34] indicated that zinc protoporphyrin is a selective inhibitor of HO.
