Addition of chloroform or bromochloropropane (BCP) aids in obtaining a sharper phase separation due to their even higher density (Table 1) which reduces carry-over of one of the two phases when pipetting [15]. During phenolic extraction, RNA and DNA display a different behaviour in respect to their enrichment in the aqueous and interphase at acidic conditions.
