2013, Journal of Chromatography B: Analytical Technologies in the Biomedical and Life SciencesCitation Excerpt :Berbamine (BBM, Fig. 1) is a natural bisbenzylisoquinoline alkaloid extracted from a berberis plant, Berberis amurensis [1]. In previous studies, BBM has been reported to possess a multitude of pharmacological effects including antihypertensive [2,3], antiarrhythmic [4,5], myocardial preservation [6–8], anti-inflammatory [9,10], antioxidant [11,12] and immunoregulation [13–16]. In recent years, great attention has been paid to BBM for its anticancer activity [17–20], especially its anti-leukemia activity [21–25].

2013, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral RadiologyCombination of Tetrandrine with cisplatin enhances cytotoxicity through growth suppression and apoptosis in ovarian cancer in vitro and in vivo
2011, Cancer LettersCitation Excerpt :It suppresses T and B cells, and inhibits production of cytokines including histamine, prostaglandins, and tumor necrosis factor-(TNF-α) [11]. Tetrandrine can suppress inflammatory reactions associated with rheumatoid arthritis, bovine serum albumin, interleukin-1 (IL-1), or endotoxin-induced uveitis, sepsis or hepatitis in animals, and prolong survival time after allogenic cardiac transplantation in mice [10,12]. In addition, Tetrandrine is a calcium channel blocker [13] and can decrease portal venous pressure and blood pressure.
