Oxidative power loss control in ozonation: Nanobubble and ultrasonic cavitation
2023, Journal of Hazardous MaterialsThe H<inf>2</inf>O<inf>2</inf> inherently released by the mycobacterial minor subpopulation enhances the survival of the major kin subpopulation against rifampicin
2022, Current Research in Microbial SciencesCitation Excerpt :Similarly, besides increasing the resister generation frequency of the NCF reported earlier (Nair et al., 2019b), the H2O2 naturally released from SCF increasing the survival of NCF against rifampicin was also a possibility. If this be the case, then the SCF exposed to non-lethal concentrations of the H2O2 scavenger, dimethyl thiourea (DMTU) (Parker et al., 1985) would not enhance the survival of NCF in the NLP against rifampicin. Similarly, the supernatant of the unstressed but DMTU-exposed SCF also would not enhance the survival of NCF in the NLP against rifampicin.

2006, Experimental Eye ResearchIn vivo oxygen radical generation in the skin of the protoporphyria model mouse with visible light exposure: An L-band ESR study
2004, Journal of Investigative DermatologyCitation Excerpt :DMTU was also reported to scavenge H2O2 and O2•− at the second-order rate constant more than three orders of magnitude smaller than that for the reaction of thioureas with •OH (Anbar and Neta, 1967; Fox, 1984; Parker et al, 1985; Kelner et al, 1990). No scavenging activity of mannitol against H2O2, O2•−, and 1O2 was reported (Kellogg and Fridovich, 1977; Fox, 1984; Parker et al, 1985; Kelner et al, 1990). Thus, the enhanced signal decay in griseofulvin-fed, light-irradiated mice should result from the reaction of carbamoyl-PROXYL with •OH generated in the skin.
Effects of TNFα on expression of ICAM-1 in human airway epithelial cells in vitro: Oxidant-mediated pathways and transcription factors
2003, Free Radical Biology and MedicineA non-hypoxic, ROS-sensitive pathway mediates TNF-α-dependent regulation of HIF-1α
2001, FEBS LettersCitation Excerpt :In order to investigate the possibility of ROS as signaling messengers in rmTNF-α-mediated regulation of HIF-1α, selective antioxidants were employed. This choice was based on the antioxidant potency and specificity: dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a scavenger of OH [23,24]; 1,3-dimethyl-2-thiourea (DMTU) scavenges H2O2 and OH [23–25]; and 4′-hydroxy-3′-methoxy-acetophenone (HMAP) is a NADPH-oxidase inhibitor which neutralizes endogenous O2−[26]. Cells were pre-treated for 2 h with DMSO, DMTU or HMAP, then exposed to rmTNF-α (10 ng/ml) for 30 min.
