A systematic review of serologic tests in the diagnosis of necrotizing enterocolitis
2009, Journal of Pediatric SurgeryCitation Excerpt :Larger clinical trials into the diagnostic accuracy of I-FABP in NEC are needed. The reported diagnostic accuracies of endotoxin in NEC varied very significantly between studies, although we note studies that report that endotoxin is only sometimes detectable in infants with NEC [36,55] and can become detectable during sepsis [56] or even after enteral feeding of premature neonates [57]. Nevertheless, severe endotoxemia appears to be a specific, if not very sensitive, marker for NEC [36].
