Furthermore, several studies have shown that the NTS, but not the LC, is involved in opiate withdrawal (Aston-Jones et al., 1999; Christie et al., 1997). We found that morphine US + CS exposure, rather than CS exposure, destabilized morphine SA memory, suggesting that the rewarding effects of morphine (US) may be necessary for this destabilization and activation of NTS ā BLA.
