Suppression of cAMP-dependent gene expression by cholecystokinin in the hippocampus
2011, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :Each region per animal was dissolved in RNA extraction buffer (Qiagen KK) and stored at −80 °C. Organotypic hippocampal slices were prepared as previously described (Stoppini et al., 1991; Sakaguchi et al., 1997; Polleux and Ghosh, 2002) with minor modifications. Briefly, P7 C57BL/6J mouse pups (Japan SLC, Shizuoka, Japan) were anesthetized and decapitated.
A 24 h corticosterone exposure exacerbates excitotoxic insult in rat hippocampal slice cultures independently of glucocorticoid receptor activation or protein synthesis
2006, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :The CA1 region demonstrated the highest level of propidium iodide uptake following NMDA exposure, as has been previously reported (Mulholland and Prendergast, 2003; Mulholland et al., 2004a,b; Prendergast et al., 2001a,b). The sensitivity of the CA1 region, relative to other regions of the hippocampal formation, may possibly relate to the greater density of NMDA receptors in this region (Martens et al., 1998) or to their resistance to block by Mg+ ex vivo (Sakaguchi et al., 1997). Additionally, there is recent evidence suggesting that the sensitivity of the CA1 region to excitotoxic insult may be related, in part, to overactivation of intrinsic hippocampal excitatory pathways and resulting “network excitation” terminating in the CA1 region of isolated cultures (Lahtinen et al., 2001; Mulholland and Prendergast, 2003; Prendergast et al., 2004).
