Lesions of the nucleus basalis magnocellularis (Meynert) induce enhanced somatosensory responses and tactile hypersensitivity in rats
2021, Experimental NeurologyCitation Excerpt :However, it is still unclear if NBM damage alone causes sensory abnormalities and pain. Pain perception in the central nervous system is regulated by acetylcholine (ACh) (Green and Kitchen, 1986). Accumulating evidence suggests that activating cholinergic receptors or prolonging the action of endogenous ACh reduces pain sensation, and such cholinergic modulation occurs at various stages throughout the somatosensory pathway (Naser and Kuner, 2018).

2007, ToxicologyCitation Excerpt :Both cholinergic agonists and anticholinesterase agents can induce antinociception. This effect appears to be related to cholinergic innervation of opioid systems (Green and Kitchen, 1986). Clement and Copeman (1984) have shown that soman and sarin produce marked analgesic response in mice, and the effect is still apparent 96 h after administration of soman.

2004, Brain ResearchCitation Excerpt :Cholinergic agonists and anticholinesterase agents produce antinociceptive effects in several animal species (see Ref. [13]).
