Tools for efficient analysis of neurons in a 3D reference atlas of whole mouse spinal cord
2021, Cell Reports MethodsCitation Excerpt :To assess the mapping accuracy quantitatively, we first manually outlined the GM and WM in 39 randomly selected sections from four animals and determined mean intensities of thresholded NT signal in each region. NT binds the ribosomal RNA associated with the rough endoplasmic reticulum in neuronal soma and dendrites (Quinn et al., 1995) and signal should thus be restricted to the GM. Indeed, we found strong signal in the GM of sections stained with NT660 (93.68% of total NT signal, N = 4, n = 39), and only sparse, punctate signal in the WM (6.32% of total NT signal) (Figure 2I).
Xenograft of human umbilical mesenchymal stem cells from Wharton's jelly as a potential therapy for rat pilocarpine-induced epilepsy
2016, Brain, Behavior, and ImmunityCitation Excerpt :Cortical neurons were treated with MTT solution (final concentration 1 mg/ml; M5655; Sigma) to determine the proportion of viable cells. NeuroTrace is a fluorescent Nissl stain that only labels neurons (Quinn et al., 1995). Cortical neurons were treated with NeuroTrace solution (N-21480; Molecular Probe) to visualize and estimate neuron viability (Lazo et al., 2010).
Oscillatory coupling within neonatal prefrontal-hippocampal networks is independent of selective removal of GABAergic neurons in the hippocampus
2014, NeuropharmacologyCitation Excerpt :of the hippocampus and normalized to corresponding ROIs over the neocortex. Fluorescent Nissl staining was performed as previously described (Quinn et al., 1995) using the NeuroTrace® 500/525 green fluorescent Nissl stain (Molecular Probes, Invitrogen). Briefly, rehydrated slices were incubated for 20 min with 1:100 diluted NeuroTrace.
