      During conditions of stress, growth factor deprivation and muscle differentiation, expression of both TNF-α, as well as the small heat shock protein, αB-crystallin, has been reported to be elevated [18,33]. It is also documented that prolonged exposure to high concentrations of TNF-α induces cell death [41]. However, the role of αB-crystallin in TNF-α signaling, if any, is not known.
