2015, NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :This potentiates the TTX-R INa and increases the neuronal excitability (Bich-Hoai et al., 2011). In diabetic neuropathy, the phosphorylated p38 and the PKCβ activity are increased in the DRG neurons and are responsible for the upregulation of the TTX-S and the TTX-R Na+ channels (Inoguchi et al., 1992; Hayase et al., 2007). Moreover, a recent report suggested that lidocaine induced gene expression and apoptosis by modulating the above intracellular signaling molecules (Villarruel et al., 2011).

2014, Cellular SignallingCitation Excerpt :In addition, these conventional PKC isoforms can cause dysfunctions of some ion channels or ion exchangers in neuronal cells, for example, PKC-βI has been reported to regulate VRAC (volume-regulated anion channel) activity in glial cells during glutamate excitotoxicity [19]. Furthermore, PKC-βII has been reported to regulate voltage-gated Na+ channels during diabetic neuronal damage [20]. In addition, it has been reported that conventional PKC isoforms can activate NHE isoforms in various cell type, for example, PKC-α is implicated in the growth factor-induced activation of the NHE-1 in NIH3T3 cells [21].
